A 99 year-old man just showed the world that age really is just a number by competing at the World Tango Championships this week.

James McManus is a Scottish-born World War II vet who represented Ireland at the international dancing competition. James did not actually start dancing until he was in his 80s, but he took to it immediately.

“Tango brings me a lot of happiness. Dancing is very important socially,” he said.

James funded the trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina for the competition through a GoFundMe page set up by friends.

“This incredible man, James McManus has travelled the world as an ex-Marine with great history behind his experiences including WWII,” the page states. ” In his latter years he spends his time dancing his heart away to the beautiful Argentine Tango.. However there is one city he has never been… Buenos Aires.. what a coincidence to his extreme love of dancing.

“This gentleman is an inspiration to our community and others around the country,” the page added. “He is the kind of gentleman who is unrepeatable…. With the most unique and young minded sense of humour, yet, his kindness and gentility shine through as he turns up to class without fail bringing a bottle of ginger beer for our maestro Hernán Catvin. At milongas Jim dances with every lady in the room and known to favour the stylish milonga, in which he has so much experience on the dance floor.”

McManus and his dance partner Lucia Seva were just one of 744 couples from 36 countries competing in the competition. Watch them perform in the video below!
