Even though flying has repeatedly been found to be the safest form of travel, many people are still terrified of it. The lack of control and anxiety can leave countless people terrified and desperate for comfort. That’s why a viral moment that was captured on a recent flight is touching the hearts of people all over the world.

While flying from San Diego to Nashville recently, Megan Ashley saw an elderly woman across the aisle from her that appeared to be experiencing some anxiety before the plane even took off. As everyone got ready for take-off, Megan looked over at the woman and was stunned by what she saw.

The woman sitting across from Megan was 96 years-old and was on her way to visit family in Kansas City for her birthday. The woman had not flown in 15 years, and she was very scared of flying.

As the plane was taking off, the lady turned to the stranger next to her and asked if he would mind holding her hand. He responded by simply saying “gladly,” and he took his fellow passenger’s hand and comforted her as the plane ascended.

The man continued to hold the woman’s hand for the rest of the flight, and he even hugged her whenever there was turbulence. He also her helped stand when she needed to use the restroom and “watched her carefully walk down the aisle” to the back of the plane when she did so. After the flight was over, the stranger helped the woman get off the plane in her wheelchair and find her daughter in the airport.

Megan said that she “walked away sobbing happy tears” because she was so touched by the man’s kindness, adding that the interaction “made [her] week” and that she’d never seen “compassion” like this on a flight before. After she posted about this on social media, the post quickly went viral, touching the hearts of people all over the world.

This just goes to show that even with all the negativity in the world today, there are still good people out there.
