Sharron Crowther’s son Harry was only a year old when she noticed a strange pigmentation and freckling forming under his armpits. Though this was the first time she noticed there was something different about her son, it would not be the last.

When Sharron took Harry to the local doctor, she was told that the freckling as just a harmless birthmark, but she had a feeling that something far more serious was going on with her son. Over the next few years, Sharron and her husband brought Harry to doctors all over the place to try and figure out what was going on. When Harry was 7, they brought him to the United States, where they were finally able to get a diagnosis.

They were stunned when they were told that Harry was born with atypical progeria syndrome, a premature aging disorder that causes him to age five times faster than normal. The disorder means that Harry suffers from many problems that typically plague elderly people, including painful arthritis, bone deterioration, limited mobility, and fatigue.

Harry’s case is so unique that he has actually been declared to be the only person in the world to be diagnosed with this specific form of progeria. Though life has not been easy for him, Harry has continued to keep a positive attitude, and he lives his life with more gusto than most healthy people do. Today, he is 20 years-old and is getting as much enjoyment out of life as he possibly can.
