We never know when we’ll be called upon to do something kind for someone else that will make a huge different in their lives. Whenever we find ourselves in these situations, however, it is important that we say “yes.”

Erik Swanson of York, Pennsylvania was on vacation with his family on the Outer Banks in North Carolina when an elderly woman suddenly walked up to them with a special request. It was clear to the family that the older woman was very nervous to ask them her question, but finally, she mustered up the courage to see if they would mind helping her elderly husband.

“So today at the beach an older woman approached our group and asked if we would help her with her husband,” Erik recounted on Facebook. “She said he has bad dementia and likely has less than a year to live. She said he told her he wanted to boogie board one last time… like he used to do when he was younger.”

Erik, who is a graphic designer and volunteer firefighter back home, immediately said yes. His entire family headed into the water as well, much to the delight of the woman and her husband.

Erik and his family came together to lift the man onto his board, and once he was boogie boarding, his reaction was priceless. He was clearly overjoyed to be back in the water doing what he always loved.

“So proud of my family and friends who didn’t hesitate to make this happen,” Erik wrote. “Very cool and touching moment. Will never forget the joy on the man’s face.”

This just goes to show how one small act of kindness can uplift someone’s day. Watch the wonderful scenario unfold in the video below.
