It’s been nearly thirteen years since wildlife legend Steve Irwin passed away, but he is still missed by millions of fans from all over the globe. Since his passing, Irwin’s wife and two children have continued his legacy of conservation, specifically at their family zoo.

Steve’s wife Terri and two children Bindi and Robert have been diligently running the Australia Zoo over the past few years. There, they enjoy performing ethical shows for the daily visitors, doing things like demonstrating the way that crocodiles feed. It is crucial to feed predators moving prey so that they retain their predatory instinct, and the easiest way to do this is to have an expertly trained handler go into their cage and carry their food around. This is also the most humane way to feed these creatures.

Recently, Robert inadvertently recreated a photo of his dad participating in one of these feedings. Robert posted the side by side images on Instagram along with the caption, “Dad and me feeding Murray… same place, same croc – two photos 15 years apart.”

Robert has been open about how important animal conservation is to him.

“I think now, even more so than when Dad was around, our wildlife is really being depleted as such an incredibly rapid rate,” he recently said. “I think it’s so important that we can learn to love and respect all animals and natural places, not just the cute and cuddly creatures.”

Steve would undoubtedly be very proud of what his family is doing these days! We’re so happy to see that they are continuing the legacy of the legendary Steve Irwin.
