Norma Maikovich is a former vet tech with the United States Army who has always had a soft spot from animals who are disabled or have other unusual physical attributes. That’s why her husband introduced Norma to two brother cats whose eyesight has been impaired from infection.

Ramsey is completely blind, but his brother Ace has one perfectly functioning eye that allows him to act as a guide for his sibling.

“We adopted our boys, Ace and Ramsey as kittens,” Norma explained on Reddit. “They were always meant to be a pair, since Ace has his left eye and Ramsey has his right. Together they complete each other.”

When Ramsey and Ace were found in a dumpster, they were so sick that they were barely clinging to life. Though they were nursed back to health, vets were not able to save their eyes from the infection they suffered from. Despite their eye issues and all that they have been through, the brothers are playful cats who Norma describes as “sweethearts.”

While Ace has a loving personality, Norma said that his appearance can sometimes be frightening to people who do not know him.

“He can sometimes seem scary, especially to children,” she explained. “People are often hesitant to greet him.”

Ace’s favorite thing to do is to lay on the pavement outside his family’s garage and to watch the world go by from there. To make sure he is safe, Norma has installed a security camera out there so she can easily keep an eye on him. Recently, she saw something on the camera’s footage that totally melted her heart.

The video opens with a young boy riding his bike by her house when he suddenly spots Ace and stops immediately. Dropping his bike, the boy walks towards Ace and tries to get him to come to him, but like most cats, the feline does not comply and instead steps back. Undeterred, the boy comes to Ace and sits by him, giving him a nice belly rub as the two bond!

“When looking at the footage, we noticed one particular boy tends to visit almost every single day,” Norma said. “It melted our hearts, not just seeing how much Ace loves this boy, but how familiar they were to each other! Sitting by the front door, as soon as Ace sees his friend, he rushes out to greet him. It’s awesome, this bond they share.”

The boy continued to visit Ace nearly every day, and when Norma finally asked him about it, the child thought he might be in trouble. Instead, Norma told him that she was overjoyed Ace had made a friend!

“A friend of Ace’s is a friend of ours,” she said. “Once we realized that they were fast friends, it made us really happy.”

“Ace isn’t a scary guy, and it just goes to show that appearances aren’t everything,” she added. “Seeing the footage of Ace and his buddy really proves that when given the chance of life and love and a family, animals with special needs and handicaps are worth it too.”
