A hotel in the Douro Valley in Portugal is now offering guests the opportunity to spend the day and night relaxing in an enormous wine barrel overlooking their beautiful vineyards.

The Quinta da Pacheca is a wine estate that has been around for 280 years, and it’s latest addition is luxurious wine barrel suites that are nearly 100 feet long. The suites include a round double bed, a full bathroom complete with a walk-in shower stall, and a private wardrobe. This is definitely a wine barrel the likes of which you’ve never seen before!

On top of that, the wine barrels have a large skylight as well as your own private patio that is perfect for enjoying a nice glass of wine. The wine barrels are even fully equipped with modern amenities such as WiFi to keep you connected if you so choose.

Quinta da Pacheca promises that all their wine-loving guests “an idyllic and romantic setting” in their vineyards, with the wine barrel rooms “providing a unique experience of contact with nature and the monumental reality of the Douro Wine Region. Unique moments of rest await you in an environment of rurality.”

Douro has been known for it’s wine-crafting abilities ever since the third century A.D., so it’s the perfect vacation spot for any wine lover. A one night’s stay at Quinta da Pacheca is $210, and you can upgrade that to $228 if you want breakfast thrown in, so it’s an affordable getaway for even the most frugal travelers.

“Quinta da Pacheca created the wine barrels as a bold architectural project of suites to reinforce the originality of the wine tourism offered at the site,” said one of the vineyard’s wine experts. “In an idyllic romantic setting, these wine barrel rooms will provide visitors a unique experience to the nature and significance of the Douro wine region.”
