Alex Cearns is an animal photographer who has won numerous awards throughout his career. His latest project, however, is earning him more accolades than ever before.

The series of portraits is called “Perfectly Imperfect: Dog Portraits of Resilience,” and they feature dogs who are disabled. Each of the dogs looks proud of who they are, even with their disabilities.

“One of my most passionate aims as an animal photographer is to capture the adorable subtleties that make all creatures precious and unique,” Alex said. I love every animal I have the privilege of photographing, but those perceived as different hold a special place in my heart. These are the canines who have lost a leg, been born without eyes, or are still showing the scars of former abuse.”

“Most animals with ‘afflictions’ don’t dwell on them,” he continued. “They adapt to their bodies without complaint and they survive with determination. They push on, always, wanting to be included and involved in everything as much as they can, and as much as an able-bodied pet does.”

“The tenacity of animals to overcome adversity never ceases to amaze me,” Alex added. “They make the most out of life and from them I have learnt so much about always seeing the positive in every situation and never giving up.”

And here are some of these incredible dogs:

This is Aryah, who was crushed in the womb.

Mya is blind.

Dot lost her eye.

Jessie can’t get enough of her wheels.

Bandit was the victim of an acid attack.

Finally, Jakk was born with malformed legs.

God bless each and every one of these incredible dogs!
