A Bahrain millionaire is being praised this week after he stepped up to help a boy who was captured in a viral video doing homework on a sidewalk under a street lamp.
Víctor Martín Angulo Córdoba was caught on CCTV camera doing his homework on a sidewalk in Peru, and it quickly went viral after being posted online by city officials. The video was originally brought to the attention of local Mayor Arturo Fernández Bazán, who found out that Víctor was using a street light due to a lack of electricity in his family’s home. Not only did Víctor’s mother not have the money to pay for electricity, she also did not have the documents to prove she owned the home which were needed to legally install electrical service.
Heartbroken by this, Arturo assisted the boy’s mother in going through this process and also delivered school supplies to Víctor so that he could stay in school and pursue his dream of becoming a police officer.
Víctor’s life then really changed when 31-year-old Yaqoob Yusuf Ahmed Mubarak, a millionaire importer and chocolatier from Bahrain, heard his story. Víctor’s reminded him of how he was as a child, so Yaqoob flew halfway around the world just to meet the young man and his family. When he saw the horrid conditions Víctor’s family was living in, Yaqoob decided to rebuild their house, adding a second story for bedrooms. He also promised to update the school’s infrastructure, adding furniture and equipping a new computer center in Víctor’s honor. He even helped Víctor’s mother start her own small business!
Yaqoob gave Víctor clothing along with a billfold “full of cash,” and he made things even better by giving the boy’s friend a new wheelchair. The millionaire even promised to return for the inauguration of the new school and new home.
