When Hailee Graham first adopted her dog, she took to social media to express her excitement by referencing her favorite movies: The Grinch and Elf.

“Potate ‘Tate’ Graham, you made my grinch heart grow 3 sizes this week,” she wrote. “I’m in puppy love, and I don’t care who knows it.”

Tate was a rescue dog, and Hailee was all too happy to give him a forever home. However, things took a turn that nobody was expecting when her neighbor soon brought home a puppy as well, and they named him Vernon. Almost immediately, Tate and Vernon bonded in an unprecedented way, and nothing could keep them apart!

“They love being together!” Hailee explained. “I don’t know if they are actually in love, but I like to think so. I walk outside and catch them digging a tunnel to each other. We couldn’t get them to stop. We couldn’t keep them apart. They would just keep digging holes to each other.”

Before long, the tunnels were ruining both homeowners’ gardens, so they got together to come up with a solution.

“I thought, ‘Why not just put a door in the fence, so they can play whenever, and their humans don’t have to get involved?’” Hailee said.

Her neighbor thought this was a great idea, so they went about building an adorable little door. Now Tate and Vernon can see each other whenever they want!

“I hope that it encourages people to be more friendly with their neighbors, and encourage a sense of community,” Hailee said. “It has worked out well for us so far.”

We hope Tate and Vernon have many wonderful years of adventures together to come!
