Country music star Darius Rucker is being applauded this week after it was revealed that he donated $2 million to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Darius, who founded Hootie & the Blowfish, first visited St. Jude’s ten years ago, and he has been fundraising for them ever since. Last month, his tenth annual Darius and Friends benefit concert raised a record-setting $425,000 for the hospital, which brought his total donation to $2 million.

“I was struck on that first visit by how St. Jude not only cares for their patients, but also their patients’ families,” Darius said after reaching this milestone. “They believe that a financial burden is the last thing a family should face when their focus needs to be on helping a kid get better, and St. Jude makes sure that their patients never pay a dime. It’s an honor for us to be able to help them continue such an important mission.”
Darius’ benefit concert last month was attended by numerous celebrities like Jimmie Allen, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, Sheryl Crow, Travis Denning, and Brett Young. Over 2,400 fans were in attendance as well, and they were stunned when they were treated to a surprise performance by country band Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley.
It’s so nice to see a celebrity giving back to the world in this way. Keep up the good work, Darius!
