Breathtakingly beautiful photos of an English countryside are going viral this week, as they show a field of hundreds of thousands of poppies blooming for the first time in years.

The photos show a sea of red flowers against a backdrop of mist gathering over the rolling Worcestershire hills, and the images were captured by photographer Verity Milligan. She took the pictures on a piece of farmland near Bewdley just before dawn of the day after the summer solstice.

Verity said the field of poppies had returned to it’s former glory for the first time after being dug up in 2013.

“I got up super early, around 2:25AM, and there was a one-hour drive from Birmingham,” she said. “There was mist on the valley which was great – we photographers are always chasing mist.”

“I looked round to find the best vantage point and then waited for the sunrise at around 4:40AM,” she continued. “They have been like this for a good week, but they will probably only be around for another week. They are looking their best about now.”

“We have had a lot of rain, so they may well hang around a bit longer than usual,” Vertity added. “There used to be poppies every year. Its a truly magical sight and I was delighted with the result.”

It’s always nice when a series of photos go viral that remind us just how beautiful this planet really is. Even when things get tough, photos like this remind us that there really is so much beauty in the world!
