A young singer who is both blind and autistic just earned a Golden Buzzer on “America’s Got Talent” after bringing the judges to tears.

When musician Kodi Lee stepped onstage with his mother Tina Lee, the judges and audience alike had no idea what to expect. Kodi may not look like an entertainer, but he was about to remind everyone to never judge a book by it’s cover.

“Kodi is blind and autistic,” Tina explained. “We found out that he loved music really early on. He listened and his eyes just went huge, and he started singing, that’s when I was in tears. I realized he’s an entertainer. Through music and performing, he was able to withstand living in this world because when you’re autistic, it’s really hard to do what everybody else does. It actually has saved his life playing music.”

While it may sound like hyperbole to say that music saved his life, it became clear that it really did once the 22 year-old started to sing.

“I’m going to sing a song for you on the piano,” Kodi said as he moved towards the piano bench. Tina crouched down next to him to offer some words of encouragement, and as soon as he opened his mouth, the judges were visibly stunned by his voice.

As Kodi performed Leon Russell’s “A Song for You,” he blew everyone away with his soulful voice. New judge Julianne Hough was especially moved by his performance, as she could be seen wiping away tears during it!

At the end of his performance, the judges were all too happy to praise Kodi.

“Not only did we feel the authority of what you do, but you’re a great inspiration and a great talent,” said longtime judge Howie Mandel. “It was amazing.”

The notoriously difficult to please judge Simon Cowell even called the performance “extraordinary.”

“You have a really beautiful tone,” Simon said. “Thank you so much for trusting us on this show. I’m going to remember this moment for the rest of my life.”

Finally, it was new judge Gabrielle Union’s turn to speak.

“I’m a new judge this season and I’m also a new mom this year. It’s the toughest job I’ve ever had and the most rewarding job I’ve ever had,” she said. “You just want to give your kids the moon, the stars and the rainbows. Tonight, I’m going to give you something special.”

After saying that, Gabrielle reached for her Golden Buzzer and hit it, sending Kodi straight through to the finals!

“You just changed the world!” Gabrielle told Kodi and Tina as they celebrated.

We can’t wait to see how Kodi does throughout the rest of the competition! Check out his unforgettable audition below.
