A 5 year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after he saved the lives of a family of thirteen, seven adults and six children, when their house caught on fire in Chicago, Illinois.

The fire broke out at 3am on a Saturday, and it started out in the back of the house near the garage. The fire quickly spread across the porch and engulfed the entire home in flames as everyone inside slept soundly. The house burned to the ground with everything inside being destroyed, including photos, birth certificates, clothes, and Social Security cards. Thankfully, everyone inside the home survived thanks to 5-year-old Jayden Espinosa, who had been staying at his aunt’s house with his siblings and cousins.

Jayden was the only person awake inside the home when the fire broke out. The fire alarm did not go off for some reason, but little Jayden had gone through enough fire drills in school that he knew exactly what to do. The little boy stepped up in a big way, and his actions ended up saving the lives of everyone in the home.

When the fire broke out, Jayden’s parents were at their own house, and they feared the worst when they heard what happened. When they rushed to the scene to see if there were any survivors, they were both shocked and overjoyed when they heard that there little boy was a hero. Thank goodness this child knew exactly what to do in a situation like this one!
