A three year-old girl who was born with both of her legs facing backwards just got a life changing surgery that will allow her to walk again.

Victoria Komada was born with bilateral tibial hemimelia, a defect that causes children to have deformed legs and missing bones.

“She was in a lot of pain all day and all night. We had all had enough. It was really horrible,” said her mother Marzena Drusewicz.

Doctors in Poland had said that the only option was to amputate both of her legs, but her parents were able to find a doctor in America who had other ideas. The doctor told her parents that he could fix Victoria’s left leg and amputate her right leg, but she’d still be able to walk with a prosthetic.

Strangers from all over donated $200,000 to pay for the surgery, which took place at the Paley Institute in Florida last July. Nine months later, Victoria is a normal little girl who loves running around outside and playing sports.

“We were so happy when she took her first steps, we started crying. We were on the way to the car and she said ‘Mommy, can I show you something?’” Marzena said.

After spending months recovering, Victoria and her family were finally able to return to their home in England last month. Now, there’s absolutely nothing holding Victoria back in life!

“We can all start our life again, Marzena said. “Now we are home.”
