It’s always fun to see how truly intelligent animals can be, and countless videos have gone viral showing how smart animals like monkeys and dolphins really are. This week, however, a new video is going viral showing a clever whale that does something that leaves everyone stunned.
The video below this story was captured by tourists in Hammerfest, Norway, and it shows a rare beluga whale. In the weeks before the video was captured, rumors were swirling that a rare beluga whale wearing a harness had been spotted in the open waters around Hammerfest. The reports indicated that the Russian government had trained the whale as a “spy” before releasing the creature back into the wild.
The whale’s friendliness and fearlessness around humans in the video below certainly does add credence to these reports.
After hearing these reports, a group of tourists decided to head out into the water to see if they could spot the whale. Ina Mansika was one of these tourists who desperately wanted to see the whale, but when she got out on the water, her day took a turn for the worse.
“We laid down on the dock to look at it and hopefully get the chance to pat it,” Ina said. “I had forgotten to close my jacket pocket and my phone fell in the ocean. We assumed it would be gone forever, until the whale dove back down and came back a few moments later with my phone in its mouth!”
Much to everyone’s surprise, the whale came out of the water and handed the phone to Ina with his mouth!
“Everyone was so surprised. We almost didn’t believe what we saw,” she said. “I was super happy and thankful that I got my phone back.”
Ina did not even care that the phone was permanently damaged from the water, as she was so amazed by what the whale had done!
“I love animals!” she said. “The whale is so kind.”
