Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrated their wedding anniversary on Monday, marking eight years since they got married back in 2011.

Though they have been married eight years, they have actually been together far longer than that. William and Kate met as students at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland, and they officially started dating in 2003. The pair briefly broke up in 2007, but this only lasted for a few months, and they were soon going strong again.

William and Kate became engaged in 2010 when he presented her with his mother Princess Diana’s 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring. The next year, they got married in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey that was watched by over two billion people from all around the world.

Since then, William and Kate have become the parents to three children: 5-year-old Prince George, 3-year-old Princess Charlotte, and 1-year-old Prince Louis.

The anniversary was particularly special for Kate, as Queen Elizabeth marked the occasion by naming her a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, which is the highest possible rank for a British royal. This just goes to show how popular Kate is within the royal family, and she’s just as beloved by the general public!

This comes after it was reported that the Queen has slowly been preparing Kate for her future role as the Queen of England.

“Kate’s been taking on new responsibilities little by little over the last few years, so it won’t be a shock when the time comes,” said royal expert Rebecca Long. “William and Kate are the favorite royals to take the crown in many generations, so the people of the UK are very excited about it.”

We would like to wish William and Kate a happy anniversary, and many more to come!
