The Tallahassee Police Department in Florida took to Facebook this week to say that a little boy called 911 because he was lonely and wanted the responding officer to be his friend.

“Here’s Officer Joe White & his new friend who called 911 without his mom knowing,” the department wrote. “Officer White arrived on scene and the young man asked Officer White to be his friend because he was lonely.”

“Officer White took the time to explain how 911 is used and how it’s for emergencies,” they continued. “Then Officer White said he’d always be a friend! The young man got a stuffed animal, got to sit in the patrol car and got to spend some time with Officer White! We have a new friend!”

Social media users have been praising the officer for taking the time to reach out to this lonely little boy.

“Thank you Officer White! A new Friendship…something positive for a change. What a handsome young friend!” one social media user commented, with another adding, “What a sweet thing to do. He will have a friend for life and such awesome memories.”

“Now that’s cute! It’s nice to hear a positive story for a change!” a third user wrote. “Blessings to that little guy!”

The media often likes to portray cops as bad guys, but this just goes to show that they are far from that. Instead, they are good people who got into their line of work because they wanted to help members of their community.
