A man from Washington state is being hailed as a hero after he saved two little girls when he came upon them while driving late at night.

Marc Breckenridge was driving home from a casino at a late hour when he suddenly slammed on the breaks, as a chocolate Labrador retriever was standing right in the middle of the road. As he turned his car around, he saw a 5-year-old blonde girl and her friend trying to chase after the dog. The 5 year-old, whose name was Paislee, was carrying a toy light as she ran into the middle of the highway with her friend.

Thinking fast, Marc ran from his car and grabbed the girls, sitting them down as cars whizzed by and narrowly missed them. As they sat there, Marc asked the girls why they were out alone so late at night, and their answer left him stunned.

Paislee told Marc that the two had decided to go to the store to buy toys, and the light in her hand was a small light-up baseball bat “to show her the way as they were going to go on their adventure.”

“But where are your parents?” Marc then asked her.

“They’re sleeping,” the girls replied, making it clear that they had snuck out.

Marc knew that he had to get the girls home as soon as possible. He took the two girls and drove them to Paislee’s house, where her father had no idea his daughter was missing.

“I says, I got your little girls here, they’re just fine. We went on a little adventure,” Marc recalled. “His eyeballs were as big as saucers, and it was just like, where? And, what?”

“They could’ve been hit by a car, the little bridge that they crossed, they could’ve easily fallen in the river, someone could’ve picked them up, a drunk driver could’ve hit them,” added Paislee’s mother, Tiffany Parris. “There’s so many different things that could’ve happened.”

Tiffany went on to say how thankful she was to Marc for taking the time to help the girls.

“Just by the grace of God he stopped and realized something was wrong,” she said. “I cannot thank him enough, from the bottom of my heart.”
