Fans of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” are in mourning this week after actress Barbara Perry passed away in Hollywood of natural causes. She was 97 years-old.

Perry had a lengthy career in both television and film that included 83 credits, but she is arguably best known for playing “Pickles,” the wife of Morey Amsterdam’s character on “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” Later on, she was replaced by actress Joan Shawlee.

Born in 1921, Perry began acting when she was only 4 years-old, appearing in “Madame Butterfly” at the Met. On top of “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” Perry also appeared in other television series including “The Donna Reed Show,” “The Hathaways,” “My Three Sons,” “St. Elsewhere,” “Newhart” and “The Andy Griffith Show.” Most recently, she guest starred on the show “Baskets” in 2017.

Perry’s film credits include “Tap” (1989), “Father of the Bride” (1991), “Just Write” (1997), “Mr. Woodcock” (2007) and “The Back-up Plan” (2010). In addition, she wrote and directed her own one woman show called “Passionate Ladies.”

Perry is the widow of Disney veteran and animation pioneer Art Babbitt, who worked on classic movies like “Dumbo,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Pinnochio.” The couple was married from 1967 until Babbitt’s death in 1992. Perry is survived by her daughter, Laurel Lee, granddaughter Audrey Lee and stepdaughters Karin and Michele.

Tributes have been pouring in for Perry online from her grieving fans.

“Rest in peace Barbara Perry,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Barbara Perry, a child actress in the ’20s who worked as recently as BASKETS, dead at 97. She was busiest in the ’60s, playing bottle-blonde types in sitcoms like THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW.

On top of her acting ability, Perry was also known for being a talented dancer. Check out one of her tap dancing routines below.
