An 8 year-old boy from Ohio is being hailed as a hero after he rescued his sister from being kidnapped.

It all started last Thursday, when Chance, 8, and Skylar, 10, headed to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown with their grandmother. She parked by the entrance to the emergency room and got out to help a friend get inside, leaving both children in the backseat. Seconds later, a strange man jumped in the driver’s seat and tried to drive away with the kids.

“The little boy opened the door to escape and the little girl started to jump out also but the man grabbed the hoodie of the little girl not allowing her to leave,” Middleton Police recounted on Facebook. “As she tried to get away, her little brother grabbed hold of her and pulled her away from the kidnapper and they both tumbled out of the vehicle as it was moving.”

The children’s grandmother, 69-year-old Nita Coburn, tried as hard as she could to save the kids by holding onto the door, but she was forced to let go as the car dragged her. Thankfully, none of them suffered any injuries and the kidnapper was soon caught by police.

“This little guy is a hero. No question,” said Middletown Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw. “He pulled his sister out of the car with no concern for his own safety. That is incredible at his age and outstanding work by Officers Kirby and Engleka to find the suspect and take him down without incident. So proud of their work.”
