These Incredible Drones Have Managed To Plant Thousands Of Trees

These amazing drones have been able to bring millions of acres of degraded landscapes by planting thousands of trees.

BioCarbon Engineering is a tech company that has been using the drones, which were designed by a former NASA engineer, to fire off pre-germinated seed pods into the ground. The company has teamed up with the conservational nonprofit Worldview International Foundation to replant mangrove saplings in Myanmar.

The drones have been planting trees since September, and since then, the saplings have grown to be 20 inches tall. This just goes to show how helpful these drones can be to the world.

“We now have a case confirmed of what species we can plant and in what conditions,” said BioCarbon engineering co-founder Irina Fedorenko. “We are now ready to scale up our planting and replicate this success.”

During the last seven years, Worldview has worked with Myanmar communities to plant over 6 million trees. Thanks to these drones, however, they are hoping to plant another 4 million trees by the end of the year.

Experts have estimated that with two local workers being trained to operate a fleet of ten drones, they could plant up to 400,000 trees per day. The drones are able to plant trees much faster than locals planting them by hand, and the method is far cheaper than traditional planting methods.

It’s amazing what technology can do these days, and we hope that this is just the beginning of drones being used to plant trees all over the world! Find out more about this in the video below.
