The town of Paradise, California was left completely devastated by a massive wildfire last year that was one of the worst in the state’s history. Dozens of people were killed in the wildfires and thousands more lost their homes. While numerous humans were affected by the wildfires, it’s important to remember that many dogs were impacted as well.

Many dogs who lost their homes to the wildfires remain in shelters at this time. Now, a group of high school students in Rancho Cordova, California are stepping up to build homes for these dogs who desperately need them.

Students in a construction class at the school have been building doghouses for the dogs who have been displaced by the wildfire. Ashley, one of the students building the doghouses, said that it was her teacher Andre who came up with the idea at first.

“Once he told me about it, I just ran with it. It’s been a great project to do,” she said. “It’s a little bit difficult, but for the most part, it’s a lot of fun. The students are great, and they’ve been really helpful throughout the whole thing. They’ve been really dedicated, and I love it.”

The students will be sending thirty doghouses as well as one chicken coop to the Paradise Animal Shelter. Andre told reporters that he could not be more proud of what his students have done.

“It’s really great seeing them… putting together all the skills we’ve been learning in class and putting it to good use for a great cause,” the teacher said.

God bless these students for stepping up to help dogs who are in need!
