Miss Sally is a 95 year-old widow from Mount Vernon, Washington who has been living alone ever since her husband died thirty years ago. Miss Sally often felt lonely over the years, but that all changed when a new friend moved into her neighborhood two years ago!

Brody is a St. Bernard who became best friends with Miss Sally as soon as he moved in down the street, and he has since completely changed her life.

“I think it’s her voice or accent that he is attracted to,” explained Brody’s owner Dave Mazzarella. “The two of them are inseparable. When Miss Sally is around, Brody couldn’t care less about being with me.” Dave added that he brought Brody home as a 12-week-old puppy from Tula, Russia.

“One day, we were outside and Miss Sally was walking to the mailbox to get her mail, Brody ran right to her,” he said. “She had a treat and the rest was history.”

Dave also owns another dog named Lulu, and she has an affinity for Miss Sally as well. Brody and Lulu often wander over to Miss Sally’s porch and snuggle up to her there on sunny days.

“Every time they were loose, I knew where they were – on Sally’s back porch,” Dave said.

Sadly, Miss Sally has since moved to an assisted living home after suffering a mild heart attack six months ago, and Brody and Lulu miss her dearly.

“Her house is empty and the dogs go there every day, waiting at her back porch, hoping she will open the door,” Dave said. “It’s pretty sad, actually.”

Brody and Lulu visit Miss Sally whenever they can, and when they aren’t doing that, they are having adventures together that are chronicled in the children’s book series The Story of Blizzard and Lulu!
