A dog who was hours away from being euthanized was just adopted after his story went viral on social media.

Oliver was taken in by Memphis Animal Services after he turned up in a family’s backyard and refused to leave it. Shelter workers believed that Oliver had a home or was being cared for at one point because he was smart and had an affinity for treats.

In fact, Oliver loved food so much that he kept his bowl with him at all times. The little guy wanted to be sure that he was always ready to be fed!

A Facebook page called Wilson, Rosie, and Pickle Pete posted about Oliver after learning that he was about to be euthanized in the hopes that they could find him the forever home that he needed.

“The animal shelter / Memphis Animal Services asked me to update to say that Oliver will be euthanized tomorrow unless they receive an email,” they wrote in the post. “Y’all, OLIVER IS ON THE URGENT LIST!! He doesn’t have much time left to find a family WHERE HE WON’T HAVE TO SHARE HIS BOWL. He needs to go home with someone as an only dog, because right now he’s not playing nice at recess.”

The post quickly went viral and was viewed by people all over the world who wanted to help Oliver. Thankfully, the post paid off, as two women stepped up to adopt Oliver!

“Thanks to everyone who posted and shared Oliver,” Memphis Animal Services stated in an update. “People all over the world fell in love with him and his bowl! Two of those people came for him, and today he’s going home. With his bowl, of course!”
