The family of Christian author and speaker Rachel Held Evans are calling for prayers this week after she was placed into a medically induced coma.
Rachel, the 37 year-old bestselling author of books like “A Year of Biblical Womanhood,” was hospitalized earlier this month with the flu and a urinary tract infection (UTI). On April 14, she asked her followers on her Twitter page to pray for her.
If you’re the praying type – I’m in the hospital with a flu + UTI combo and a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotics they gave me. (I’m totally going to miss GOT! ?)

While she seems to have been in good spirits at the time, as she was most worried about missing “Game Of Thrones,” things took a horrifying turn in the days afterwards. Her husband Daniel Evans revealed that Rachel was put into a medically induced coma on April 19 after her infection led to her suffering from seizures.
“During treatment for an infection Rachel began exhibiting unexpected symptoms,” he wrote on her blog. “Doctors found that her brain was experiencing constant seizures. She is currently in the ICU. She is in a medically induced coma while the doctors work to determine the cause and solution.”
A GoFundMe page to pay for Rachel’s medical bills has since raised over $94,000 as fans all over the world continue to pray for her.
I can think of few people who are such examples of what I imagine a healthy Christian would look like as @rachelheldevans. So, I’ve been on my knees in intercessory prayer that I’m not sure I believe in this morning. #PrayForRHE

The latest update about Rachel’s health came on Tuesday, when Dan wrote that she still is in a coma and that not much has changed. Rachel is a mother of two small children who desperately need her, so please join us in saying a prayer that this devout young woman makes a full recovery.
