New reports are coming in stating that Prince Charles warned Meghan Markle not to wear a tiara to a state dinner in Fiji the very same night that Kate Middleton wore a diamond-emblazoned tiara at Buckingham Palace.

It all started back in October, when Meghan asked to wear a jeweled tiara from the Royal Collection for a state dinner while she was in Fiji with her husband, Prince Harry. Charles, Meghan’s father-in-law, immediately said no because he feared that this move would be too “extravagant,” according to royal sources.

Meghan was reportedly not happy when she later learned that Kate had worn a diamond and pearl tiara previously owned by Prince William and Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, that very same night.

“Meghan did not understand all of this because she was new to the role and so Prince Charles told her that it would not be appropriate,” a source said. “It was very kindly done.”

Charles, however, warned Meghan about the poverty in Fiji and about how wearing such a fancy tiara would reflect on the royal family. The royal family has consistently made an effort not to flaunt their wealth, but Meghan is likely still getting used to the many royal etiquette rules that must be followed since she has been in the family for less than a year.

This comes months after Meghan was saddened when Queen Elizabeth refused to let her wear an emerald tiara for her royal wedding to Harry in May 2018. Instead, the Queen gave Meghan a diamond and platinum tiara to wear to the wedding.
