These days, it often seems that only negative stories about police officers are reported by the media. Here’s another story to the contrary, of our men and women in blue doing wonderful things in their dangerous line of work.

It all started last week, when landscaper Adrian Salgado was getting ready to go to work in Santa Ana, California. Suddenly, two robbers hijacked his pickup truck and fled with all of his equipment. Adrian ended up losing his vehicle, cell phone, leaf blower, hand tools, and mower, which police say was all worth around $3,000. On top of that, he lost $1,000 in rent money which he had stashed away inside the truck.

A devastated Adrian rushed home to tell his daughter what happened, and she immediately called the police before using an iPhone app to find the missing truck. Though the pickup truck was found and the thieves were arrested, Adrian’s equipment was still missing. This sent him into panic mode, as he is the sole provider for his family. Saddened to see him this way, the responding police officers decided to go above and beyond to help him.

“We all came from working-class families,” said Sgt. Michael Gonzalez, adding that Adrian reminded him and his colleagues of their own fathers. “It was like, ‘hey, that’s my dad.’”

A rookie policewoman suggested that the officers pool together their money to help Adrian, and they all thought that was a great idea. After raising $500 among themselves, the cops reached out to the regional police association for additional donations, which resulted in a $500 match from the president.

When officers took Adrian to Home Depot to shop for new equipment, the store agreed to throw in a $100 donation as well as offering military discounts to many of the cops. In addition, a stranger donated $40 to the cause after hearing about it from one of the officers.

Adrian’s daughter spoke out to profusely thank the officers for their help, saying, “Now I can see my dad with a smile because he can go back to work.” Find out more about this in the video below!
