A Good Samaritan from Houston, Texas has been given an award for helping police officers take down a robbery suspect.

It all started when Deputy Lancaster of Harris County Constable Precinct 6 Office was investigating a stolen car call near a gas station when he was called about a suspect trying to steal from the convenience store inside. The suspect had been combative with other customers and had gone on to attack a man standing outside.

Lancaster tried to separate the two and detain the suspect, but cellphone footage shows the suspect begin to fight back and punch the officer in the face repeatedly. A group of men managed to pull the suspect off the deputy, but that’s when  stepped in to take the suspect down and pin him to the ground.

The group of men continued to try and assault the suspect but Baltimore told them repeatedly, “Chill, do not hit me.” Baltimore kept the suspect pinned to the ground until Lancaster was able to get up and arrest him. He has since been charged with assault on a public servant.

Though some have told Baltimore that he should have let the suspect go, he has no regrets about what he did.

“But everybody was like you should’ve let him ran, but it was an act of kindness. Like why not? Cause it could’ve got way worse,” he said. “The guy could’ve got shot and then they could’ve been like the white cop killed the black man. You know we gotta stop all of that. It’s crazy.”

Precinct has since awarded Baltimore with the Certificate of Recognition for his bravery and selflessness.

“Mr. Baltimore is a prime example of how Community and Law Enforcement can work together for the Well-being and Safety of everyone,” Precinct 6 posted on social media.

We applaud Brandon Baltimore for stepping up to help a police officer when he needed it!
