Mike Rowe is a popular television host best known for his former show “Dirty Jobs” and his current gig in the Facebook Watch hit, “Returning the Favor.” Now, his 80 year-old mother Peggy is making a name for herself with her new book “About My Mother: True Stories of a Horse-Crazy Daughter and Her Baseball-Obsessed Mother,” which she describes as “a love letter to mothers everywhere.”

Peggy said in a recent interview with her son that she wants to have a positive impact on pop culture.

“I can’t control what happens in the world. I can only control my little piece of the world and that is my writing,” she said. “And in my book about my mother I have written stories that will honestly make you feel good and give you hope and make you laugh also. That’s my contribution to the world.”

Peggy also revealed some details about Mike that his fans will definitely find surprising.

“Mike was very shy,” she said of her son as a child. “He hated meeting strangers.”

“I can neither confirm nor deny anything my mother is saying,” Mike added ironically, as he is known for talking up a storm these days.

Mike went on to say that he could not be more proud of his mother for writing a ‘love letter’ of wonderful stories to bring our country together at a time when we desperately need it.

“What my mom has done with these stories, in my view, is tap the country on the shoulder and remind us that there’s more to life than the stuff that’s in the headlines,” he said, adding that “we’re living in a terribly fractured time when most of the country can’t seem to agree on anything.”

Mike said that in his career, he’s tried to look for “universally relevant” themes instead of things that divide us. It’s nice to see that Mike’s mom is trying to do the same thing!
