Old friends Liza Minnelli and George Hamilton enjoyed a night out on the town in Beverly Hills earlier this month after the Cabaret star said that she did not “approve” of Renee Zellweger being cast to play her mother, Judy Garland.

Liza and George were all smiles as they attended a fundraiser benefitting The Great American Songbook Foundation and Treatment Action Group at the home of Kevin and Neil Goetz.

Liza even took the stage at times and sang some songs for the awestruck audience. Liza seemed to be completely in her element at the Hollywood gathering, with many saying that the 73 year-old looked fantastic.

This comes after Liza said that she did not “approve nor sanction” Renee playing her mother onscreen in the upcoming biopic about Judy. Liza spoke out to deny reports that she had “bonded” with Renee, saying that they had never even met.

“I have never met nor spoken to Renee Zellweger,” Liza said. “I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way. Any reports to the contrary are 100% Fiction.”

The biopic, which is called Judy and was shot in London, features Renee undergoing a dramatic transformation to portray the Wizard Of Oz star. The movie will tell the story of the actress’ final concerts before her death in 1969 at the age of 47, and it will feature some of her most popular songs, which Renee will apparently be singing.

It’s a shame that Liza is not happy about the movie, but we’re so glad to see that she seems to be doing well!
