Gorillas are some of the closest relatives that humans have in the animal kingdom, as we share much of the same DNA with them. Now, some photos are going viral in which gorillas look more human than ever as they pose for selfies with the anti-poaching rangers who protect them.

The photos below were taken at Virunga National Park in eastern Congo, and they have quickly gone viral, leaving people all over the globe completely speechless.

“The photo was taken by Mathieu Shamavu who is a full-time ranger with Virunga National Park,” a spokesperson for the National Park said in a statement. “The two orphaned gorillas in the photo are Ndakazi and Ndeze.”

The Park explained that the photo was taken inside the Senkwekwe Center for orphaned gorillas, which is located at the Park’s headquarters in Rumangabo.

“We’ve received dozens of messages about the photo. YES, it’s real!” the Park said. “Those gorilla gals are always acting cheeky so this was the perfect shot of their true personalities! Also, it’s no surprise to see these girls on their two feet either—most primates are comfortable walking upright (bipedalism) for short bursts of time.”

The facility went on to say that the photos perfectly sum up the close bond between the gorillas and the staffers who watch over them.

“We want to emphasize that these gorillas are in an enclosed sanctuary for orphans to which they have lived since infancy,” the Park explained. “The caretakers at Senkwekwe take great care to not put the health of the gorillas in danger. These are exceptional circumstances in which the photo was taken. It is never permitted to approach a gorilla in the wild.”
