When guests at Jessica Hanley’s bat mitzvah gathered around the dance floor, they assumed that they were about to see a traditional father daughter dance performed by Jessica and her father, Mike. They had no idea that they were about to witness a dad and daughter dance the likes of which none of them had ever seen before!

Jessica and Mike began by performing to the song “My Girl” by The Temptations, which seems to be a fitting choice for a father daughter dance.

The guests thought that the father and daughter were just going to slow dance to “My Girl” the whole time, so they were stunned when the music suddenly switched to the Whitney Houston song “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” with Jessica acting out the lyrics “Say you wanna dance? Don’t you wanna dance?” Everyone burst out laughing as Mike pretended like he knew nothing about the music change.

The father and daughter proceeded to dance to a mashup of songs that included Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5”, LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem”, Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back”, Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”, “Greased Lightning” from the movie, Grease, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” and 50 Cents “In Da Club.” Finally, the original song “My Girl” played as they concluded the routine, which was choreographed by Jessica.

Mike Hanley happens to be a standup comedian who has been performing since 1989. He retired in 2000 to spend more time with his wife and three daughters, but with their blessing, he returned to comedy in 2011 and has been performing ever since! It’s clear from the video below that Mike has some serious comedic chops that he’s passed on to his daughter.
