A healthy 18 year-old man just died after eating pork, which can carry a brain-eating parasitic larvae that is able to invade your mind and eat away at the tissue of your brain. The teenager was rushed to the hospital after having a seizure, and while doctors did everything they could for him, they were not able to save him from the all-consuming parasite.

You can take a look at the young man’s brain in the MRI scan below. You’ll see that the damage caused by the pork-based parasite is consistent with neurocysticercosis, which is incredibly deadly. This condition happens when parasitic larvae bust into the brain after you eat under-cooked pork products. The larvae then live in your body until they are strong enough to invade your nervous system and travel to your brain.

Once the parasite reaches your brain, it starts to consume parts of it, inducing seizures and threatening your life. That’s why the young man died two weeks after he was hospitalized even though he had some of the best doctors in the world attending him.

This young man’s case was so severe that researchers all over the world have been studying it since his death. The MRI scans show that cysts were in the young man’s cerebral cortex, which is an essential part of the brain. The parasites were so ingrained in his brain that they were affecting his ability to use his five senses.

The risks of eating under-cooked pork can get you sick but as the tragic case of this young man proves, it can prove to be deadly as well.
