An 8 week-old puppy was recently found with horrific burn marks all over her body in a trash can in Newport, Tennessee.

The puppy, who has since been named Hope, was found in a trash can outside of a restaurant with burns to 60 percent of her body, with her ears and tongue being the worst affected areas. Hope was initially taken in by Friends Animal Shelter of Cocke County, where staffers did the best they could to help her. She has since been in the care of the Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, California, where she can receive 24 hour veterinary care.

Staffers are praying that Hope’s young age will help her to recover well.

“I literally sat at my desk and cried for half an hour and I called her Hope, because that’s what she needed. She needed Hope,” said Director of Friends Animal Shelter of Cocke County Elisha Henry, who was one of the first people to find the puppy.

Brother Wolf said that Hope is doing much better now, saying, “Hope is already enjoying cuddling up with her wonderful new blanket while she recovers.” Authorities are still investigating the incident and trying to find whoever did this to the poor puppy.

“Following our most recent updates on Hope, we would like to extend a special thank you for an exceptionally sweet package we received yesterday from FABB (Fur Angel Blessing Blanketeers), addressed directly to Hope,” Brother Wolf said. “Inside the box was a heartfelt card, a toy, and a soft, handmade prayer blanket that over 150 people put their thoughts and prayers onto.”

“The outpouring of love and support we have received from the community has been absolutely incredible,” Brother Wolf continued. “We at Brother Wolf would like to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for the overwhelming amount of thoughts, prayers, well wishes, and donations that have been made so far in Hope’s healing journey. Please keep Hope in your thoughts and prayers!
