A 12 year-old boy from Michigan has found himself becoming a viral sensation after he decided to fill potholes in his town himself when he got tired of waiting for officials to do it.

Monte Scott first began filling potholes in Muskegon Heights using a shovel and dirt from his backyard.

“I didn’t want people messing up their cars like my mom did,” he explained. “If somebody were to drive down the street and hit a pothole, and then would have to pay like $600-700 to get their car fixed, they would be mad.”

Monte did not tell anyone what he planned to do, and his mother Trinell only found out about his efforts when a niece texted her saying that she’d seen the boy hard at work in a Facebook video.

“He just took it upon himself to [fix the road],” Trinell said. “That’s just the type of kid he is. When he sees there’s a problem or a need, and he thinks he can fix it, he’ll try to fix it.”

The video has quickly gone viral, with people all over the world praising Monte for his work ethic. Since last week, Monte has filled fifteen potholes, and Trinell said that the video serves as proof that her son is a kind and hardworking young man.

“Everything is not bad out of Muskegon Heights,” Trinell said.

City officials have yet to comment on Monte’s efforts, but it has long been known that crumbling roads are a huge issue in Michigan. Hopefully, Monte’s hard work will finally inspire lawmakers to do something about this!
