The cello is one of the most beautiful instruments in the world, as it has the power to make songs sound better than ever before. The video below this story will show that, as it features two cellists performing the Leonard Cohen song “Hallelujah” in a way that you have never heard before.

“Hallelujah” was not much of a success when Cohen first released it back in 1984, but a few years later, it made the charts when it was covered by the late Jeff Buckley. The song then became an international hit when it was featured in the 2001 film Shrek, and since then, it has become one of the most beloved songs of modern times.

Many artists have covered “Hallelujah” in recent years, and now, 2CELLOS has decided to try their hand at it.

2CELLOS consists of Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, and the duo first found success in 2011, when they posted a video to YouTube playing their rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal.” The video immediately went viral, garnering over 830 million views! Since this hit, the duo has recorded many other covers over the years to songs like “Thunderstruck” and The Pirates of the Caribbean theme.

A few months ago, the pair decided to cover “Hallelujah,” and they certainly did not disappoint! This performance has quickly gone viral as well, getting over three million views in just a few months time.

“When I listen, immediately I am transported to another place and another time. There is nothing I can do but close my eyes, and just live in their world. Transformative…” one social media user commented, with another adding, “If someone had asked me if I would ever accept a version of this song without lyrics I would have told them, “Never!”. This video changed my mind, it captures the soul of the song very well without saying a word.”

Check out their amazing performance below!
