Cosmo is a 130 pound St. Bernard who has led a very difficult life. After being born to a breeder in Nebraska, Cosmo was sent to the Hearts United For Animals shelter for unknown reasons.

Though staffers at the shelter did not know why Cosmo was abandoned, they bonded with him immediately because of his friendly and outgoing personality.

The shelter shared photos of Cosmo on social media in the hopes of finding him a forever home, and the images caught the attention of a woman named Jayne and her husband. The two fell in love with Cosmo and decided to drive all the way from their New York home to Nebraska just to adopt him.

As they headed to the shelter, Jayne was nervous that she would not get along with Cosmo, but these fears were put to rest as soon as she met him.

“I don’t know if Cosmo has any understanding of what’s happening, but I think he understands there’s a human here who wants to give him some love and he’s pretty happy about it,” Jayne explained.

Everyone at the shelter was sad to say goodbye to Cosmo, but they were relieved that he finally had the forever home that he deserved. Cosmo was nervous to get in Jayne’s car at first, but as soon as he was inside, he calmed down as they began the long drive back to New York.

When they finally got to her home, Jayne captured the moment Cosmo walked inside for the first time on camera. Once inside, he got to meet his new dog siblings, Poppy and Grendel, as well as Jayne’s rabbit!

Jayne let Cosmo walk around the house exploring, sniffing everything as he went.

“It’s nice to see him on a big space, see him spread out and put his belly on a cool floor, and just know he’s finally staying in a space, a place where can feel happy and comfortable,” Jayne said.

Cosmo immediately bonded with Jayne’s children, Alice and Owen, and his eyes lit up as soon as he saw them.

Months have since gone by, and Cosmo is loving his forever home more than ever. He has particularly bonded with his dog sister Poppy, who he is inseparable from!

“Animals just understand life a little bit better than people sometimes,” Jayne said. “It’s like they know what’s important, and if they have love and food and a roof over their heads…that’s all that really matters.”

We’re so glad that Cosmo has found the loving forever home that he deserves! Find out more about him in the video below.
