Even though the odds of dying in a plane crash are astronomically small, many people all over the world are afraid of flying. A former aviation engineer and crash investigator has come up with a design that would make flying a whole lot safer and could perhaps quell anxieties for all travelers.

Vladimir Tatarenk has designed a new airplane that has a cabin that is a separately contained section of the plane, with the ability to detach from the cockpit and wings at the push of a button. Two parachutes that are attached to the roof of the cabin would slowly carry it to safety once it detached, and the cabin will also have inflatable cushions designed to make the landing softer.

Vladimir has said that not only would his design make airplane travel safer, it would also streamline the tedious boarding process. The detachable cabin allows passengers to board in two separate sections of the plane, making the boarding process much faster.

While this design is fascinating and innovative, experts have said that it may never become a reality. For one thing, it would be incredibly costly, and experts have questioned how the cabin would safely land in a mountainous or urban area. Furthermore, they have said that the design does not include anything to keep the pilots safe.

Even so, this design has gotten other airplane aficionados thinking, so we would not be surprised if we saw some version of this become a reality in the future. Find out more about this design in the video below!
