Joe Cuba is a World War II veteran who asked for 100 cards for his 100th birthday, and much to his surprise, he ended up with a whole lot more than that!

It all started last week, when a photo was posted to social media showing Joe holding a sign asking for 100 birthday cards for his 100th birthday on March 2. Right after the photo was posted, Joe’s nursing home in Wichita Falls started getting flooded with cards from people from all over the world.

Staffers at the nursing home say that they have received over 10,000 cards! Cassandra Gore, the resident programs coordinator at the home, confirmed that Joe had received presents from people in countries like Australia, Italy, Germany, Poland and Ireland.

“Joe continues to be amazed with everyone’s generosity,” the nursing home posted on Facebook. “Keep the cards coming as we celebrate a 100 years with GI Joe.”

Stephanie Veitenheimer, who took the photo that started it all, said that she has been getting calls from Fox News, military groups and teachers asking how they can help Joe celebrate his big day.

Joe is incredibly grateful for the gifts he has received, and he spoke out to offer some advice to anyone who wants to make it to 100.

“Just keep on trucking. When you like to do something, do it,” he said. “If you don’t, don’t. But I’ll say if you’re interested in something, and have a chance to presume then life will get a hold of it and stay with it. Stay with something and you’ll get ahead. You’ll be okay.”

Happy birthday, Joe!
