Tawny Nelson is a single mother of four children who has had a difficult time since her ex left their family. Recently, she was at the supermarket when she met someone who she describes as an angel sent by God to let her know that everything was going to be alright.

“I am the single mother of 4 absolutely beautiful little girls. They are 9, 5, 2, and 6 weeks,” Tawny wrote in a viral Facebook post. “And things have been particularly rough since my ex left.”

The only vehicle Tawny had was an old truck that was in very bad shape, so she avoided driving it as much as possible. One rainy night, however, she needed to go to Winn Dixie, so she loaded up her kids into the truck and they set off. Things took a bad turn for them after they finished shopping and got back in the truck, only to find that it would not start.

“One of my girls accidentally left a light on,” Tawny said. “My battery was dead. My phone was also disconnected. I have no family to speak of and was on my own.”

Checking under the hood, Tawny realized that the truck’s battery was dead. Desperate, she ran back into the grocery store and asked her fellow customers for help, only to get a sad response.

“I must have asked more than twenty people in the course of two hours for a jump,” she recalled. “They all ignored me. Not even a no. Just acted like I didn’t exist.”

Getting back in the car, Tawny’s kids were getting restless, and she broke down because she felt like “the worst Mom ever.”

“Then I got a knock on the passenger window,” she said.

The knock came from a 74 year-old man who had a cane and a limp, but he said he wanted to help her. He gave the mother a plate of chicken strips and biscuits from the deli along with some bottles of water.

“Feed those babies and your self young lady,” he told Tawny. “I have a tow truck on the way and my wife will be here shortly to take y’all home.”

He then brought Tawny and her children home as the tow truck followed behind them. The man’s kindness did not stop there! The next day, he hired a mechanic to fix the battery as well as the other issues with the vehicle. While the mechanic was working, the elderly man made his exit.

“When I asked what I owed the mechanic and if I could make payments he smiled telling me the older man had paid for all of it,” Tawny said. “He said that the only payment the older man wanted was for me to never give up and keep being an amazing mom.”

The kind stranger had a major impact on Tawny.

“I’ve never cried so hard in my life,” she said. “What he did revived my faith when I was falling apart. But he wouldn’t even take a hug. I’ll never be able to thank him. But I certainly hope one day I can do what he did for me for someone else.”

Sometimes when we least expect it, God reminds us that there are angels everywhere among us.
