It’s always fun to see interspecies relationships form between different creatures in the wild, especially when the two animals are dramatically different sizes. That’s why internet users can’t get enough of the adorable friendship that formed between a silverback gorilla named Bobo and a little wild bush baby!

Bobo may be the king of the jungle now, but life has not always been easy for him, as he was just 2 years-old when he was abandoned as a toddler. Thankfully, he was rescued and brought to the Ape Action Africa’s Mefou Primate Sanctuary in Cameroon, where he has lived since 1994. There, Bobo lives with around 300 great apes and chimps, and he has earned their respect enough that he is now their leader.

Recently, Bobo came across a wild bush baby who completely stole his heart, and the two immediately became the best of friends.

Bush babies are small African monkeys who spend much of their times hiding in trees, as their tiny stature makes it easy for them to fall prey to other animals. Silverback gorillas are generally thought of as brutish creatures, but Bobo showed the world that he really is just a gentle giant with the way he handled this bush baby.

The bush baby must have been terrified when he saw the 400 pound Bobo, but the gorilla quickly showed the smaller creature that he had nothing to worry about. Gorillas like Bobo are herbivores, which means they have no interest in eating creatures like wild bush babies.

Though many of Bobo’s fellow gorillas wanted to handle the wild bush baby themselves, he was very protective of his new friend. Bobo only let his lady friend Avishag get a closer look at the tiny creature, enforcing a strict hands-off policy when it came to the rest of the gorillas.

After spending some time playing together, Bobo finally hand-delivered his new bush baby friend back to the trees. We would not be surprised at all if the two end up playing together again soon, as this seems to be the beginning of a wonderful friendship!
