Arkansas Highway Police Corporal Roy Martin had been on the force for 31 years, putting his life on the line to protect his community every day, when he decided that it was finally time to retire.

Each time a cop ends their shift, they are required to radio in to dispatch the time and their status. When a police officer retires, they have one last radio call that is typically a very emotional moment for them. This was especially true for Roy when it came time for him to make his final radio call.

Roy’s son Billy is also an Arkansas State police officer, and when his father was preparing to make his final radio call, he knew that he wanted to be a part of it. In the video below this story, you’ll see Roy pick up his radio one last time as he sits in his police cruiser. You have to see his shocked reaction when he hears his son’s voice on the other end of the radio!

Roy was so overcome with emotion that he burst into tears and could barely gather his voice to respond. It’s clear to everyone watching this video just how much Roy means to both the police force and his own family.

Video of the emotional moment has quickly gone viral, being viewed over 284,000 times in just a few weeks! Social media users everywhere have been thanking Roy for his years of service.

“Thank you so much for all your dedication to the wonderful state of Arkansas god bless you and your family,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Roy is one of the best. Have a great retirement!!!”

“I’m in tears. This was such a special video,” a third user wrote. “Congratulations to Cpl. Martin and thanks for your service.”
