When a couple breaks up, things can get messy fast, as this situation is an incredibly difficult one. Things are made even harder when the couple has children together, which often results in the couple fighting for custody. These custody battles can get nasty, and oftentimes, the parents end up saying things to each other that they come to regret.

The situation between exes can be made even worse when a new partner enters one of their lives. The relationship can be even more complicated once someone brings in a new partner who then plays a role in the child’s life.

Now, however, a letter is going viral that was written by a young mother who is taking a different approach when it comes to dealing with her ex’s new girlfriend.

Audrey Loving and Corey Henry met when they were 18, and they soon welcomed a daughter named Riley together. Unfortunately, they struggled to keep their long distance relationship going, and they eventually broke up. Afterwards, Audrey got full custody of Riley, but Corey remained a part of the little girl’s life.

After some time passed, Corey began dating another woman. While many would have been resentful if they were in Audrey’s position, she was not upset at all. Instead, she saw this as an opportunity to teach Riley how to love this new woman in her life.

When she was a child, Audrey had both a mother and a stepmother, and she knew how hard it could be for a child to balance this situation when there was bitterness involved. That’s why she was determined that Riley not have to experience that herself.

Riley listened to her mother and gave Corey’s girlfriend a chance, and they are now very close! Afterwards, Audrey took to social media to reveal the lesson that she taught her daughter:

“This is my daughter’s father’s girlfriend. The sweetest thing ever! I’m super thankful for her because when she visits her dad she feeds her, takes care of her, buys her gifts, and basically takes care of her like her own. Why do all these moms act so spiteful and jealous towards the other women? NOONE said it was easy trying to be a mother to a kid you didn’t have. So when there is someone trying, don’t push them away! Because they DON’T need the drama they WILL leave and then you’re stuck with someone who is the evil step mom. Yes they exist! I see them everywhere! A kid can have two moms because in my eyes the more people that love her I’m happy! I would never make her feel like an outsider; I’m extremely thankful for this girl.

Ladies, grow up and focus on being a good mom. Love more hate less!”

We could all do well to be a little more like Audrey if we ever were to find ourselves in a situation like this one!
