Military veterans are incredible people who put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms that the rest of us have. Sadly, when veterans return home, they often do not get the respect that they deserve. That’s why it’s so great that a group of bikers are stepping up to make sure that no veteran is forgotten.

Robert Krause served his country as a Marine in the 1950s. Sadly, when he recently passed away, he left behind no family and nobody claimed his body.

“I’ve heard it said that a veteran dies twice: once on the battlefield and the second time when people stop saying his name,” said Marine Corps and US Army veteran Nick Morales. “If there’s anything we can do to prevent the latter, so be it.”

That’s why Nick and a group of bikers teamed up to give Robert the respectful burial that he deserves. They showed up at his funeral and escorted his casket from the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital of the Florida National Cemetery. There, they gave him a proper burial that was fitting of the hero that he was.

Nick said it was his honor to participate in this.

“Our motto is ‘vets helping vets,’” he said. “We’re not going to let any vet go to their final resting place by themselves. We all have a common bond of service – our service, what we’ve done for our country. And regardless of what we’ve done after our service, we still have that bond.”
