Last Sunday, Kate Middleton celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with her husband Prince William by attending the traditional parade of the Irish guards. There, Kate was given a funny piece of parenting advice from a major as she fawned over his 12 week-old newborn son.

Kate began her appearance by presenting sprigs of shamrock to officers and warrant officers before watching the 350 soldiers march on Parade Square. Then, she met Major Ben Irwin-Clark and his newborn son Rory, who was sound asleep.

As a mother of three herself, Kate could not help but ask how they were keeping their son asleep so peacefully. Ben responded by joking that “a drop of whiskey in the milk” kept the baby fast asleep. He was quick to add “no it’s a joke,” causing the entire group to burst out laughing.

“Oh well enjoy, it just gets better and better,” Kate said, offering some words of wisdom before she said goodbye to them. Clearly, Kate is enjoying being a mom to her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis!

The tradition of watching this parade on St. Patrick’s Day has been a staple of the royal family since 1901. It was a favorite of the Queen Mother, who attended the event every year. Kate has been in attendance every year since she joined the royal family except for the 2016 parade, when she was hit with backlash for choosing to remain at home with her two young children. This year, she appeared in good spirits at the parade, to which she appeared dressed head to toe in green.
