When Taylor Dunnavant and her husband learned that they were expecting their second child, they were ecstatic. They had no idea just how many surprises baby Noralynn was about to bring them and their 5 year-old daughter, Brooklynn.

Taylor’s first pregnancy was easy, but this one was anything but that. She was in constant pain throughout the pregnancy and was actually losing weight rather than gaining. The Missouri mother eventually went into labor two weeks early, and when Noralynn was born, the family was stunned when they saw her hair color.

“When he set her down, all I could do was yell, ‘Oh!'” Taylor said of seeing Noralynn for the first time. “Our baby had hair alright, a head full of hair, white as snow. I looked at Chris and all I could say to him was, ‘She has white hair.'”

“That’s when all the thoughts started swarming in. ‘How did she get white hair? What caused white hair? Is our baby albino? How could she be albino? Is she okay?’ I kept shaking,” she added. “The nurse told me [the shaking] was probably just from labor, but I think it was my nerves because I was terrified of what could come from this.”

Taylor and Chris had many fears about what this meant, but one of their main ones was how Brooklynn would react to her sister looking so “different.”

“I was dreading having to explain to our 5-year-old, Brooklynn, why her sister was different,” Taylor explained. “I didn’t want Brooklynn to think we didn’t love her. It wasn’t so much directed towards Noralynn’s albinism, but more just I didn’t want Brooklynn to dislike her baby sister.”

As soon as Brooklynn met Noralynn, however, her parents realized that they had no reason to fear. In fact, Brooklynn’s first reaction was to say that she looked just like Princess Elsa from the Disney movie Frozen.

“I didn’t have to tell her [a] thing … She told me that her sister was a snow fairy. And then informed me that she was related to Elsa,” Taylor said. “I should have known that children see no differences.”

Since then, Noralynn has officially been diagnosed with albinism, but Brooklynn’s reaction put everything into perspective for the family.

“As soon as she told me she looked like Elsa, I couldn’t help but laugh,” she said. “It was the most comical, yet heartwarming response. And I hoped the world would be just as accepting as my 5-year-old was.”

Noralynn is one lucky little girl to have such a loving big sister. It’s clear that this is the beginning of a beautiful sisterhood!
