Joel Osteen Produces Eight-Part Christian Documentary Set To Air On History Channel
Joel Osteen, pastor of Houston’s Lakewood megachurch, has produced a new documentary about Jesus Christ called “Jesus: His Life” that is set to air on HISTORY on March 25.
The series will air two back-to-back episodes on March 25 and will continue airing weekly until Easter. The documentary series will explore the life of Jesus using a format similar to the VH1 documentary show “Behind The Music.” Each episode is told from the perspective of a different biblical figure who played a role in Jesus’ life, including Joseph, John the Baptist, Mary Mother of Jesus, Caiaphas, Judas Iscariot, Pontius Pilate, Mary Magdalene, and Peter.
The series used some of the world’s most respected biblical scholars, historians, and theologians in an effort to show all sides of Jesus. The documentary series hopes to show not only who Jesus was as the Messiah, but also as a man.
“‘Jesus: His Life’ brings together some of the world’s top scholars, historians and faith leaders from diverse ideological and theological perspectives to tell the story of Jesus in a new way,” said Mary Donahue, senior vice president, programming and development for HISTORY. “Viewers will see and experience the life of Jesus as never before, through this powerful and thought-provoking portrait of a man who is one of the most influential people in human history.”
Osteen, who helmed the project as executive producer, is one of the most respected televangelists in the world. He has authored ten books that have reached number 1 on The New York Times’ bestseller list, and his weekly television show is watched by millions of people all over the world.
