Legendary Hollywood star Doris Day is going to be turning 97 on Tuesday. Now, it’s been revealed that she plans to celebrate her birthday by enjoying her favorite dessert, which is Edy’s slow-churned chocolate fudge ice cream.

“Doris will be spending a quiet birthday at home again this year surrounded by a few close friends,” said her business manager Bob Bashara. “She always gets lots of phone calls wishing her happy birthday. And, in the evening, she’ll enjoy a special birthday dinner followed by cake and ice cream.”

The Doris Day Animal Foundation is also throwing a benefit in Day’s honor in the actress’s hometown of Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. The event is being held at the Cypress Inn, which is offering a Pillow Talk cocktail, featuring vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice. Pillow Talk, of course, is one of the most popular films that Day starred in along with Rock Hudson in 1959.

The benefit will include a screening of Pillow Talk along with a celebrity Q&A moderated by TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz. Then, on Saturday, comedian and impressionist Rich Little will perform, as will pianist Michael Feinstein, who is set to play favorites from the American Songbook. After the performances, there will be a live auction of a signed Pillow Talk script and other memorabilia.

This comes two years after Day got a birthday surprise that left her completely stunned, as she learned that she is actually two years older than she always thought she was! Just as Day was preparing to celebrate what she thought was her 93rd birthday, the Associated Press learned that she was actually turning 95. Day had always thought that she was born in 1924, but in reality, she was born in 1922.

Charley Cullen Walters, Day’s publicist, said at the time that the actress may have written her age incorrectly on an audition form when she was young.

Since retiring from Hollywood in the early 1970s, Day has devoted her life to helping animals. When she isn’t working with her charity, Day enjoys maintaining her privacy and living a quiet life at home. Please join us in wishing Doris Day a very happy birthday!
