It has just been revealed that the pop star Michael Jackson “fell in love” with Princess Diana after meeting her in  1988 during his “Bad” tour.

This was revealed by Jackson’s former bodyguard Mark Fiddes, who helped run his security for over a decade.

“He felt she was the only person in the world who could understand his life in terms of not being able to go anywhere, and the media stories that got out of hand,” Fiddes said. “The intrusion into the private life, having no privacy whatsoever. He felt an immediate bond with her as soon as they met. They were both very shy individuals and he loved her, he wanted to marry her truth be told.”

Fiddes went on to talk about how devastated Jackson was by Diana’s untimely death in 1997.

“They both had this tremendous amount of pain they suffered due to the role they were in,” Fiddes said. “He was completely devastated when she died – Michael would always talk about her and he learnt a lot from her death.”

Fiddes also said that Jackson and Diana would talk at “all hours of the night” and their one connection was “the phone between Neverland and Kensington Palace.”

Jackson’s legacy has come under fire this month with the release of the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, which chronicles the allegations of sexual abuse on children that have been made against him. The Michael Jackson Estate is suing HBO for $85 million over the film, which they say is “an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in” on Jackson.
